How Counseling

Can Help

Sometimes in our lives, we find ourselves at a point where we feel stuck, conflicted, and unable to move on. During these times it can be difficult to talk to friends or even family because we don't want to concern them with our troubles. Other times, it can simply help to have an objective viewpoint.

As your therapist, it is my goal to offer an objective, compassionate, and non-judgmental atmosphere to help with your unique circumstances. We will work together on ways to help get you moving again in the direction and at the pace you want to go. We will look for solutions to problems, build on strengths and focus on the positive; while giving time and space for you to process your thoughts and emotions.

My Story

Counseling has become a natural fit for me, and I feel deeply honored when an individual allows me into their life. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (VA license# 0904005896) and Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP).  I enjoy helping people and connecting with others through therapy. I am empathetic toward the struggles and challenges that life can bring.

Sharing a trusting relationship is an integral part of therapy. I believe that it is important to work as a team, where we work together towards your growth and change. That way, you can reach your goals and improve the overall quality of your life.

Education and Experience

My counseling training and experience includes assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals, couples, families, and groups. I received my Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree from Barry University in Miami, Florida and my Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Go Gators!

Since graduating in 1992, I have worked in agencies, in-patient programs, day treatment programs, and private settings with children, adults, and seniors. Additionally, I have experience with dual diagnosis of substance abuse and mental illness, adoptions (home studies and post-placement visits), dialysis (peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis), developmental disabilities, and dementia.  I have also been a volunteer both in FL and VA on the Human Rights Advocacy Committee.

I started working in private practice in Florida in 2001. After relocating to Virginia in 2004, I started Gentille Counseling Services.
